TOM’S THUMB TRAILHEAD 23015 N 128th St, Scottsdale, AZ, 85255 Directions From Scottsdale Rd or Pima Rd, turn East onto Happy Valley Rd. Proceed about 2 miles past Alma School and turn right (East) onto Ranch Gate. Proceed to the end of Ranch Gate and then turn right (South) onto 128 St and you’ll arrive at the trailhead in less than a mile. Overview This trailhead offers access to many important features such as Tom’s Thumb, Windgate Overlook, Gardener’s Wall, Sven Slab, Mesquite Canyon and the Windmill Trail. Explore the Marcus Landslide Trail from here to learn all about the 2nd largest landslide in Arizona. Tom’s Thumb was the first of our trailheads on the north side of the McDowell Mountains. Landscape Tom’s Thumb Trail consists of loose gravel terrain with very steep climbs, dramatic rock formations and an elevation gain 1,200 ft. This field trip event engages 3rd and 4th grade students in place-based learning through fun, educational lessons about the Sonoran Desert. Program supports Arizona state curriculum standards and fits into the Expedition Days Online unit.
