Learn With Us
As part of our stewardship of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, the Conservancy focuses on providing information about the Preserve and the environment to recreationists who use the Preserve, families whose proximity to the Preserve creates an impact, environmental enthusiasts and community leaders. Learning about the Preserve, its residents and its history enhances the enjoyment of visiting the Preserve and reveals the significance of this living treasure.
The McDowell Sonoran Conservancy offers classes and lectures in the Preserve and in community libraries and classrooms on a variety of topics. Our most comprehensive study of the Sonoran Desert consists of classes in Ecology, Geology, Desert Surfaces, Human History of the McDowells and Flora and Fauna of the Preserve. Most of these are also available on-line.
Children can connect to the natural and cultural resources of the Preserve’s Sonoran Desert through outdoor tours and school programs offered by the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy. These visits to the Preserve meet Arizona science and heritage curriculum standards, giving children the opportunity to touch, hear, and even smell things that will enhance their Preserve experience.
