Hike: Desert Surfaces – Natural History Field Study
March 25 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am
If you think the desert floor is all dust, gravel and rocks, then you haven’t taken a good look at what’s underneath your feet. The desert’s surface is full of life in the form of soil crust, lichen, and desert varnish—all made up of living organisms, some neither plants nor animals. We’ll explore these life forms and how they enrich and protect the desert surface. Allow 2 hours for this 2.5-mile hike with minimal elevation gain. Please meet at the Lost Dog Wash Trailhead by 7:45 am.
