Conservation

As many of you know, MSC supports the citizen's initiative regarding state trust land reform.  In order for this to be placed on the ballot in November, approximately 300,000 signatures must be gathered indicating that enough of the community is interested in voting on the measure.  All signatures must be collected by June 23, 2008.

This is the best chance we will have to complete

the Preserve in a long time.

We have been advocating for the establishment and completion of the Preserve since 1991.  The voters have supported every measure - once they reached to ballot.  Getting the initiative on the ballot takes our collective request.  Please join us in saying"We want to vote".

There are two ways to help:

Sign a petition.  Don't wait to bump in to a signature gatherer at a grocery store or library.  You may miss out!  Come by the MSC office at your convenience to sign the petition.  Our office is conveniently located on the southeast corner of Frank Lloyd Write Blvd. and Scottsdale Road.  Directions and contact information can be found here.

Gather Signatures.  Each signature page just has 15 lines.  Do you know 15 people? If you don’t want to canvass your neighborhood, that’s OK!  Could you ask your family?  Your book club?  Your hiking buddy? Many hands make light work and every page of signatures brings us closer to our goal.  We will train you in signature gathering.  It is very easy.  Following the few guidelines ensures that the signatures you collect will be validated and accepted.

Here a summary of the initiative:

This measure will permanently conserve and protect approximately 580,000 acres of some of the most important natural areas in Arizona and provide an opportunity for conserving additional lands.  State trust lands throughout Arizona will be conserved protecting more of Arizona's land and water for future generations.  The initiative will also enhance an essential classroom funding stream through improved planning and management of state trust lands, require local communities to cooperate in the planning and development of trust lands, and provide new tools for the more effective management of trust lands.
